A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of pursuits much better than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at loved ones. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items surfaced over the holidays, and should you missed a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
