Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of Tylenol, asserting the corporations withheld potential risks that the medication presented to children's neurological development.

The lawsuit comes thirty days after Former President Trump publicized an unproven link between taking Tylenol - also known as paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in children.

Paxton is suing Johnson & Johnson, which formerly manufactured the medication, the exclusive pain medication suggested for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a official comment, he claimed they "deceived the public by profiting off of pain and promoting medication without regard for the risks."

The manufacturer asserts there is lacking scientific proof tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These corporations lied for decades, deliberately risking millions to increase profits," Paxton, from the Republican party, declared.

The company commented that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the safety of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its online platform, the company also stated it had "continuously evaluated the pertinent research and there is lacking reliable evidence that shows a established connection between taking paracetamol and autism."

Groups speaking for medical professionals and health professionals agree.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated paracetamol - the key substance in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for pregnant women to treat discomfort and fever, which can create serious health risks if left untreated.

"In more than two decades of research on the utilization of paracetamol in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has successfully concluded that the consumption of paracetamol in any stage of pregnancy results in brain development issues in offspring," the group commented.

The court filing references latest statements from the previous government in arguing the drug is potentially dangerous.

Recently, the former president raised alarms from public health officials when he told women during pregnancy to "fight like hell" not to use acetaminophen when sick.

The FDA then released a statement that doctors should contemplate reducing the consumption of Tylenol, while also mentioning that "a proven link" between the medication and autism in minors has remains unverified.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in spring to initiate "a massive testing and research effort" that would determine the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But experts warned that discovering a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - believed by scientists to be the outcome of a complex mix of inherited and surrounding conditions - would prove challenging.

Autism is a form of enduring cognitive variation and condition that affects how people perceive and engage with the surroundings, and is identified using medical professional evaluations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is campaigning for US Senate - claims Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "intentionally overlooked and sought to suppress the science" around paracetamol and autism.

The lawsuit aims to force the firms "destroy any promotional materials" that claims acetaminophen is reliable for women during pregnancy.

The court case parallels the grievances of a group of mothers and fathers of children with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who took legal action against the producers of Tylenol in 2022.

Judicial authorities dismissed the legal action, stating research from the family's specialists was lacking definitive proof.
